Research and Planning- Marking

Amy and Tilly produced several excellent analyses of film openings and opening title sequences. Their explorations of Ramona and Beezus and Bridge to Terabithia were thorough, insightful and showed a perceptive appreciation of forms and conventions and how audiences will respond to these. Their work on the BBFC, health and safety assessment and film companies demonstrated a clear understanding of media industries. The BBFC section might have benefited from looking at specific examples of films earning particular certificates. Their work on film company names including feedback from their focus group was outstanding. I would like to have seen a greater understanding of marketing. Several posts, such as those of music and script demonstrated an understanding of how their original idea evolved. Their editing diary in particular was excellent.

Their research was very thorough. They showed a good understanding of psychographics and demeographics and how media industries use these, although a more in depth examination of their primary target audience would have been better. Their focus group work was detailed and they have demonstrated the impact of their audience feedback in several posts.

Amy and Tilly worked very closely on this blog. I feel that overall their research and planning is very comprehensive and showed an excellent understanding  of media products, their forms and conventions and how audiences make meaning from them.  They investigated institutional issues ranging from regulation to marketing. Aside from a lack of story board, their planning was thorough and responses demonstrated an ability to learn and adapt during the process. Their blog is clear and well written but it is a shame that they didn't employ a greater range of media.

Moodboards

Hello! For our project, we have designed some moodboards to give us inspiration and insight into the aesthetic of our film: The first mood board is representative of what elements we want to include in our film, notably childhood wonder, exploration and, most importantly, imagination. They also depict the type of mise-en-scene we want to present in our film opening. For example, we plan to use everyday clothing as well as colourful costumes to show the visual contrast between 'real' and 'imagination' as well as a means to represent our characters in a childish but endearing way. As for setting, we hope to use a playground, possibly with a woods or forest-like area behind it to add to the general feeling of outside play and adventure, where the characters can use the play equipment as props to act out the stories in their imagination. We also wanted to include aspects of family by having the main characters being children of a young, pre-teen age. The mood bo...

Evaluation of Preliminary Task

Evaluation Explain about how you went about the three compulsory aspects of this exercise - shot reverse shot, 180-degree rule and match on action editing. The compulsory editing aspects of the preliminary task were all followed correctly throughout the entirety of the video. The shot reverse shot features the two primary actors (Claire and Tilly) sitting face-to-face at a desk when t hey have a conversation about how Claire had been stealing stationery from people’s lockers around the school.  The camera flicked between them numerous times varying between close up and medium shots. These shots show the facial expressions of our actors and help to pull the story line together. The 180-degree rule was a little bit tougher for us to follow, as we had to re-shoot the opening shot as we had accidentally broken the rule. However, the re-shoot meant that the rule was no longer broken and the editing could be completed efficiently.  The final compulsory aspect wa...

Bridge to Terabithia - Textual Analysis (2)

Textual Analysis of a Film Opening:  Bridge To Terabithia Bridge to Terabithia tells the story of Jesse Aarons (Josh Hutcherson) and Leslie Burke (Anna-Sophia Robb) and their vivid imaginations, creativity and their growing friendship as they face evils in their everyday lives, such as facing a bully or Jesse's strained relationship with his Dad. The film uses special effects and drawn animation to create a whimsical world that draws audiences in and keeps them invested. 1) Conventions The opening of 'Bridge to Terabithia', firstly, adheres to general film conventions by including the logo animations for two production companies involved with the development at the beginning of the opening, these being Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media. The clip starts with an opening establishing shot of what we presume is our main character's house, outside of which is a truck and a small green house. From this visual information, and the size and architectural st...
