Evaluation of Setting/Location

Setting/Location

The setting we chose for our set was a park within the woods. We chose this setting for aesthetic, symbolic and convenience reasons, as well as the fact it was deemed the most suitable option for our opening. We also considered various other parks to use as a set, but found that they were either too spacious or didn't provide the equipment we wanted to use in our opening. The options we considered were Thundersley Great Common, Hadleigh Country Park and Hockley Woods, but the final decision was to film in Belfairs Park, due to the play-park itself being imbedded in the woods, which created an atmosphere of nature and adventure that we wanted to reflect in our opening. The setting, or rather the way we utilised it, could have been improved if we had been able to film more time-effectively and if we had found a way to use the constructs to film more interesting shots. The setting is shown throughout the opening through various different shots and frames the presence of the characters effectively, though arguably the angle of some of the shots made the setting seem more like a giant prop rather than a set, as the equipment was perhaps used too interactively.

Ramona and Beezus - Textual Analysis (1)

Textual Analysis of a Film Opening: Ramona and Beezus ' Ramona and Beezus ' tells the story of Ramona Quimby and her various unsuccessful plans to keep her life and family together, such as trying to help her Dad, Robert, earn money after he loses his job and trying to wash her neighbour's car. The film utilises the theme of childish wonder and imagination to take moments outside of the reality of the film and show the audience what Ramona, as a 9-year old, is seeing, creating various scenes that use animation and creative licence in an endearing, memorable manner.  1) Conventions The first part of the sequence we see follows convention as it presents the film company logos of the various companies involved in production, in this case they're '20th Century Fox' and 'Walden Media'. The opening then proceeds into show ing the film title 'Ramona and Beezus'. The audience can then assume that 'Ramona and Beezus' are characters in the ...

Bridge to Terabithia - Textual Analysis (2)

Textual Analysis of a Film Opening:  Bridge To Terabithia Bridge to Terabithia tells the story of Jesse Aarons (Josh Hutcherson) and Leslie Burke (Anna-Sophia Robb) and their vivid imaginations, creativity and their growing friendship as they face evils in their everyday lives, such as facing a bully or Jesse's strained relationship with his Dad. The film uses special effects and drawn animation to create a whimsical world that draws audiences in and keeps them invested. 1) Conventions The opening of 'Bridge to Terabithia', firstly, adheres to general film conventions by including the logo animations for two production companies involved with the development at the beginning of the opening, these being Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media. The clip starts with an opening establishing shot of what we presume is our main character's house, outside of which is a truck and a small green house. From this visual information, and the size and architectural st...
