Questionnaire and Audience Feedback

Audience Feedback Questionnaire

On top of the research gathered from the focus group, it was important to find out what the target audience wanted from the family film genre, specifically. To do that, we used the website 'surveymonkey' (https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/) to make a questionnaire.

Firstly, we made an account on the website:
Next, we followed through with the general login requirements. At first, the website asks you if you have any affiliation with companies or the level of employment you are at; as this does not apply to us, we skipped ahead to the main page. From there, we used the onscreen 'create a survey' option to begin making the questionnaire. The website provided templates and we considered various options before deciding on the 'Movie Viewing Template' found in the 'Just For Fun Section':

From this point, we could edit the base template to make the questionnaire longer and more suited to the questions we wanted to ask the target audience.

The Answers:

We had a total of 10 responses for our survey and therefore had around 10 responses for each question, as not all questions were compulsory to answer.

Question 1:
We found that the most common answer for this question was 'moderately often' with four people voting in this category. This was closely followed by 'extremely often' with three votes.

Question 2:
We had numerous different responses for this question, they ranged in genre and tone.
Three people mentioned La La Land, two people also mentioned Beauty and The Beast, some other's mentioned were A Dog's Purpose, Moana, Hidden Figures, Zootopia and The Edge of Seventeen.

Question 3:
Again like question 2, we had numerous different responses. Some of these included, 'happy endings', 'comical scenes', 'to be entertaining for everyone', 'not too violent or graphic', 'family orientated' and 'good messages'.

Question 4:
Also in this question we found from the people answering that they liked a range of different actors and actress' from different genres and backgrounds. Some of the people included: Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Gosling, Emma Watson, Will Ferrell and Anna Kendrick.

Question 5:
This question was the least answered one of the lot, many people wrote that they didn't know or couldn't think of one. The celebrities that have been mentioned are, Amy Schumer, Bill Cosby, David Walliams and Lindsay Lohan.

Question 6:
The two most common categories in this question were 'extremely likely' and 'quite likely', these both had 3 votes. These two sections were followed by the 'slightly likely' section with 2 votes.

Question 7:
The most common response to this question was 0-1 hours, which had 4 votes, and supports the idea that people watch more movies than TV.

Question 8:
As mentioned above, people had said to watch movies more than TV. The results came in at 6 votes to 4 and nothing for the neither option.

Question 9:
We surprisingly found that the majority of people in our survey answered saying that the princess themed movies were their favourite sub-genre of a children's film It received 4 of the 10 votes. The family and superhero genre's both coming in in second each with 3 votes.

Question 10:
With this question, the outstanding winner was the 'both' category. This received 7 out of 10 of the votes. However the live-action got an extra vote over the animation.

Bridge to Terabithia - Textual Analysis (2)

Textual Analysis of a Film Opening:  Bridge To Terabithia Bridge to Terabithia tells the story of Jesse Aarons (Josh Hutcherson) and Leslie Burke (Anna-Sophia Robb) and their vivid imaginations, creativity and their growing friendship as they face evils in their everyday lives, such as facing a bully or Jesse's strained relationship with his Dad. The film uses special effects and drawn animation to create a whimsical world that draws audiences in and keeps them invested. 1) Conventions The opening of 'Bridge to Terabithia', firstly, adheres to general film conventions by including the logo animations for two production companies involved with the development at the beginning of the opening, these being Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media. The clip starts with an opening establishing shot of what we presume is our main character's house, outside of which is a truck and a small green house. From this visual information, and the size and architectural st...

Media Preliminary - Final Version

This is the video version of our preliminary. It features a match-on-action, use of the 180 degree rule and a shot-reverse-shot. The girl with glasses is Tilly, who is playing the 'teacher's pet' character, and the girl opposite is Claire, who is playing the 'delinquent' character.  These are the st o ryboards we used as the basis for our video. We tried to keep the live-action version as close to the original as possible. In the first day of filming, we did make the mistake of filming the wrong door in which Claire was supposed to enter, as the door depicted in the storyboards was opposite the one filmed. This was remedied later by re-filming the shot. Similarly, the first day of filming led to inaccuracies in regards to the 180 degree rule, as it was broken during some shots by accident, which we again later remedied on the next day of filming. There was no problems in regards to the shot-reverse-shot, but there were small, extraneous inconsiste...

Moodboards

Hello! For our project, we have designed some moodboards to give us inspiration and insight into the aesthetic of our film: The first mood board is representative of what elements we want to include in our film, notably childhood wonder, exploration and, most importantly, imagination. They also depict the type of mise-en-scene we want to present in our film opening. For example, we plan to use everyday clothing as well as colourful costumes to show the visual contrast between 'real' and 'imagination' as well as a means to represent our characters in a childish but endearing way. As for setting, we hope to use a playground, possibly with a woods or forest-like area behind it to add to the general feeling of outside play and adventure, where the characters can use the play equipment as props to act out the stories in their imagination. We also wanted to include aspects of family by having the main characters being children of a young, pre-teen age. The mood bo...
