Moodboards

Hello!

For our project, we have designed some moodboards to give us inspiration and insight into the aesthetic of our film:

The first mood board is representative of what elements we want to include in our film, notably childhood wonder, exploration and, most importantly, imagination. They also depict the type of mise-en-scene we want to present in our film opening. For example, we plan to use everyday clothing as well as colourful costumes to show the visual contrast between 'real' and 'imagination' as well as a means to represent our characters in a childish but endearing way. As for setting, we hope to use a playground, possibly with a woods or forest-like area behind it to add to the general feeling of outside play and adventure, where the characters can use the play equipment as props to act out the stories in their imagination. We also wanted to include aspects of family by having the main characters being children of a young, pre-teen age. The mood board includes the following films: Ramona and Beezus (2010), The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008), Bridge to Terabithia (2007), Home Alone (1990), Cheaper By The Dozen (2003), Spirited Away (2001), Jumanji (1995). The Book of Life (2014), Epic (2013), Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (1971) and Moana (2016). It also includes the following television programmes: Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends (2004 - 2009) and Mona the Vampire (1999 - 2003), which both focus very heavily on the idea of children's imagination. 

The second mood board is representative of all the different sub-genre's within the family/childhood genre, some of which we are going to include in our project. The rows (from top to to bottom) depict screenshots from family films that feature the horror, musical, fantasy, comedy and sci-fi genres also. This is demonstrative of the broad representation of sub-genres within our chosen genre and will help us develop ideas and give us guidelines of conventions to follow. We are able to draw numerous aspects from each of these sub-genre's for example, The Addam's Family (1991), features very strong family values which we would like to emulate within our opening sequence. The other films on our mood board are; Coraline (2009), Mary Poppins (1964), The Sound of Music (1965), Enchanted (2007), Tinker Bell and the Pirate Fairy (2014), Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016). The Incredibles (2004), The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), The LEGO Batman Movie (2017), Nanny McPhee (2005), The Cat in the Hat (2003), WALL-E (2008), Meet The Robinsons (2007) and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), all of which feature children, or naive/child-like characters, as the primary or secondary characters.
